New High School Media Literacy Grant Program Announced

1/24/2012

A new grant program is offering Pennsylvania high schools the opportunity to develop a unique peer-to-peer media literacy program.

The Media Literacy High School Grant Program, made possible by Drug Free Pennsylvania in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, provides a seed grant of up to $1,000 per school to coordinate a small-scale pilot program for students during the spring semester of 2012.

The initiative will allow students, under the guidance of a designated faculty or staff coordinator, to explore media literacy issues and then develop a team video project examining the influence of media messaging and manipulation on teen behaviors or perspectives about drugs and alcohol.

Details and application instructions for the program are available at www.medialiteracypa.org/highschool.

The application deadline is February 21, 2012.
